Ditzingen, Germany--On Friday, July 9, the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung will award Federico Capasso of Harvard University (Cambridge, MA) the 2010 Berthold Leibinger Zukunftspreis for his work in quantum-cascade lasers.
The Zukunftspreis is a research prize (with a 30K Euro award purse) honoring research milestones regarding the application or generation of laser light. They will also award the Berthold Leibinger Innovationspreis (with a 30K, 20K, and 10K Euro award purse for first, second, and third place winners, respectively)an innovation prize honoring advancements in the application or generation of laser lightto four winning groups this year (go to http://www.leibinger-stiftung.de/2.laureates_2010.html to see full details on the winners). The prizes are given out every two years.

In addition to his quantum-cascade laser specialty, Capasso’s group at Harvard University works on plasmonic nanospheres, surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs), deformed microcavity lasers, and multi-beam and multi-wavelength lasers.
