Nashua, NH--At the 2011 Lasers & Photonics Marketplace Seminar (www.marketplaceseminar.com), coming up soon on January 24th at the InterContinental Hotel in San Francisco in conjunction with SPIE’s Photonics West (spie.org/photonics-west.xml), Dr. Brian C. Wilson presents "Breaking into Bio with Light-Enabled Technologies." Wilson is professor of Medical Biophysics and head of the Laboratory for Applied Biophotonics University Health Network/University of Toronto, ON, Canada, and brings more than a decade of experience working with with over 30 companiesfrom start-ups to big pharmaacross a wide range of biophotonics applications.

Wilson’s presentation discusses how using optimum approaches to the "why, what, how, when and where" of translating technologies that are based on or include optical processes into medical practice and use in the life sciences is critical to success. The issues involved are addressed, both in general terms and by specific past, current, and potential future examples in therapeutics, diagnostics, and analytics.

The Seminar also includes a keynote presentation by Reinhart Propawe, director of Fraunhofer ILT, on development trends in the technology of high-power diode lasers and the outlook for their increasing use in direct materials processing applications.

This year’s Seminar also features presentations from top analysts at leading market research firms Solarbuzz and Gartner on the solar/photovoltaic and semiconductor equipment market segments, respectively.

And of course, the Marketplace Seminar will also feature presentations from Laser Focus World chief editor Steve Anderson and Industrial Laser Solutions chief editor David Belforte on the current state of the laser markets and forecasts for 2011. Fortunately, the global market for lasers will reach an estimated $6.4 billion in sales in 2010, more or less erasing the effects of the 2008/2009 economic downturn.
