CEA-Leti and Neolux to improve manufacturing of "intelligent" LED modules for lighting

Grenoble and La Chapelle Vendomoise, France--CEA-Leti is working with Neolux on a three-year project, called MODULED, to create an optimum manufacturing process for Neolux's "intelligent" LED systems. Intelligent LEDs interact with their environment, such as the daytime/nighttime light level and the presence and placement of people.

The partnership will give Neolux, which conceives and commercializes LED lighting systems, access to the project's first qualified product.

The MODULED project will concentrate on simplifying the LED modules in both function and form, trimming down the mechanics and electronics, and adding in leading-edge features. Lower-cost fabrication processes will be developed for these modules.

CEA-Leti is the tech-transfer and commercialization arm of CEA, the French-government-funded technical research institute. Leti has focused on LED lighting technology since 2006 and has launched projects to deal with thermal management, light extraction, and wavelength conversion.

"I am convinced that we are at the dawn of a generation of 'intelligent' lighting objects that is similar to what we saw happening in communications products ten years ago," said Laurent Malier, CEO of Leti.
