The Excelsior One continuous-wave (CW) lasers include ultraviolet (UV), visible, and near-infrared (NIR) versions—all of which feature the company's It’s In the Box design, which integrates the laser cavity and control electronics into one compact housing. Available as free-space and fiber-coupled laser configurations, the line includes 11 different wavelengths that each deliver up to 500 mW of average power. All lasers deliver TEM00 mode quality and low optical noise for high signal-to-noise ratio. Applications include flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, DNA sequencing, and other bioinstrumentation applications.

Spectra-Physics® Launches Compact Integrated Lasers for Bioinstrumentation

• Excelsior® One™ features 11 wavelengths in a single package

Santa Clara, CA – Spectra-Physics®, a Newport Corporation brand, introduces the Excelsior One continuous-wave (CW) lasers series. The new line of ultraviolet (UV), visible, and near-infrared (NIR) CW lasers integrate laser head and controller into a single, compact package. Available as free-space and fiber-coupled laser configurations, the plug-and-play Excelsior One series includes eleven different wavelengths and delivers up to 500 mW of average power. For added convenience, the integrated lasers utilize only one supply voltage for all models. They are ideal for use in flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, DNA sequencing, and other bioinstrumentation applications.

“Featuring true modularity with an integrated, single footprint across a broad selection of wavelengths, power levels, and configurations, the Excelsior One lasers are perfect for customers who need flexibility in configuring their instruments, even for upgrades or reconfigurations in the field,” states Jürgen Niederhofer, general manager for Spectra-Physics (Stahnsdorf, Germany). “With market-leading power levels and performance, and proven reliability, these lasers are a dependable, simple solution for a wide range of fluorescence-based bioinstrumentation applications.”

The Excelsior One product family includes direct diode and diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) technology in a consistent compact footprint with a common electronics interface. The new platform is based on Spectra-Physics’ It’s In the Box™ design, where the laser cavity and control electronics are integrated into a single, compact housing, thereby eliminating unnecessary cables and external controllers. All lasers deliver TEM00 mode quality and very low optical noise for highest signal-to-noise ratio. The DPSS models are available in single or multi-longitudinal mode versions. Easy to configure, the direct-diode models include high speed modulation (TTL and analog) plus an RS-232 interface.
