NKT Photonics licenses photonic-crystal fiber technology to PicoQuant for use in supercontinuum lasers
Birkerød, Denmark--NKT Photonics has licensed parts of its photonic-crystal fiber (PCF) technology to pulsed diode lasers, single-photon counting, and fluorescence instrumentation maker PicoQuant (Berlin, Germany) for use in the company's Solea supercontinuum lasers. PCFs form the backbone of several product areas, including supercontinuum lasers and high-power pulsed fiber lasers.
The covered patents include NKT Photonics' methods for drawing and subsequently processing the fibers for use in systems, while the license given covers using NKT Photonics' fibers for making supercontinuum light sources comprising a gain-switched laser diode.
Jakob Skov, CEO of NKT Photonics, notes that supercontinuum lasers are now used in countless applications, including bioimaging and optical characterization.
PicoQuant will display its first products using NKT Photonics' fibers at its booth at SPIE Photonics West in San Francisco, CA, to take place February 4-6, 2014.
