AKL'14, organized by Fraunhofer ILT (Aachen, Germany), and the Workshop on CMOS Imaging: From photon to camera, organized by Fraunhofer IMS (Duisburg, Germany), will bring international focus on their respective fields of photonics this May.

For the 10th time, laser experts from research and industry will present the newest processes, beam sources, latest developments, and trends in laser technology at AKL'14 (May 7-9). The Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT expects more than 600 participants.

A few of the most interesting topics:

Individualized series production--Linking the virtual world with that of laser production is opening new horizons for production technology, enabling individualized or particularly complex components to be manufactured under inexpensive conditions. Digital photonic production can pave the way for new business models.

Ultrashort pulse lasers--Three sessions will focus on ultrafast lasers, which are increasingly making their way into the industrial environment.

Innovation Award Laser Technology 2014--The ArbeitskreisLasertechnike.V. and the European Laser Institute ELI will award the Innovation Award Laser Technology for excellent innovations in the development and application of lasers in production technology. The award is endowed with 10,000 Euros.

The 7th Workshop for CMOS Imaging (May 20-21) is organized by the Fraunhofer Institute for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems to discuss the latest trends in CMOS technology for imaging, and included topics such as the pinned photodiode, the limitations of mobile sensors, SWIR InGaAs FPAs for passive and active day and night vision, hyperspectral imagers, and single-photon counting. Computational imaging for industry and high-resolution Earth observation cameras will also be discussed.
