GSI Group to acquire Lincoln Laser Company for $11 million
GSI Group (Bedford, MA; NASDAQ: GSIG) says that it will acquire Lincoln Laser Company (Phoenix, AZ) for $11 million in cash in a transaction expected to close in November of 2015.
GSI owns a number of photonics-related companies (or "business units") already and produces sealed CO2 lasers via Synrad (Mukilteo, WA); galvanometer scanners, mirrors, and laser beam-delivery systems via Cambridge Technology (Bedford, MA) as well as beam-delivery systems via Synrad; motion-control components via Celera Motion; photonic instrumentation via Photo Research (Chatsworth, CA); and additional products through other business units.
The Lincoln Laser Company produces precision laser-beam delivery systems and ultrafast-scanning components including scan heads, polygonal and galvo scanners, optical modules, and polygonal mirrors; the company also has an engineering services team that designs custom systems for use in a variety of fields, including medical imaging, film inspection, laser marking, microscopic inspection, plate making, label printing, large scale metrology, and others.
Concentration of scanning expertise
The Lincoln Laser business will integrate within Cambridge Technology, where its scanning technology and know-how is expected to complement that of Cambridge Technology, which includes galvanometer-based optical scanning components, 2-axis and 3-axis scan heads, scanning subsystems, high-power scanning heads, and controlling hardware and software. Market applications for Cambridge Technology's products include advanced industrial processes, medical microscopy, ophthalmology, OCT, and others.
