Cat S60 is first mobile phone to contain an integrated thermal camera
March 3, 2016
The Cat phone. (Image: FLIR) Mobile-phone maker Bullitt Group (Reading, England), a licensee of Caterpillar Group (Peoria, IL) for mobile devices and producer of the Cat line of phones, has introduced the first mobile phone with an IR camera integrated into the phone. Built into the Cat S60 is the Lepton thermal microcamera module by FLIR (Wilsonville, OR). The 80 x 60 pixel Lepton is the same module used in the FLIR ONE smartphone thermal-camera accessory introduced in 2014, the difference for the Cat S60 being that the Lepton is a part of the Cat phone itself, while the FLIR ONE is a separate plug-in smartphone accessory. The Cat S60 is designed for use by people with jobs in construction, heavy industry, defense, farming, and the like. The Android-based phone includes an app that enables the thermal camera to produce still images, panoramas, videos, minimum, maximum, and average temperature data, and temperature spot metering. The Cat S60 will be available later this year (2016).
