Singapore--Photonics technology developer Zecotek Photonics has achieved commercial production status with its MAPD-3N solid-state micro-pixel avalanche photodiode (MAPD) photodetectors.

Singapore--Photonics technology developer Zecotek Photonics has achieved commercial production status with its MAPD-3N solid-state micro-pixel avalanche photodiode (MAPD) photodetectors. Manufactured under contract by the Malaysian Institute of Microelectronic Systems and Omega Semiconductor Sdn Bhd (MIMOS), the MAPDs are ready after six months of fine-tuning pre-production runs.

The MAPD-3N offers improvement in photon detection efficiency and working gain and reduces dark count rates by a factor of two, enabling universal adoption of solid-state detection technology in PET medical scanners and gamma camera applications. The company's MAPD technology can be used to manufacture two-dimensional arrays of solid-state photodetectors, allowing for the manufacture and implementation of large-area detectors and compact position-sensitive arrays.

The MAPD-3N is supplied to customers through Zecotek Imaging Systems Pte. Ltd., Singapore, a wholly owned subsidiary of Zecotek Photonics, and manufactured under contract by the Malaysian Institute of Microelectronic Systems and Omega Semiconductor Sdn Bhd.
