  EQT, a private Equity Fund, has taken over Leybold Optics from Unaxis Holding effective retroactively to 30 September 2001. • Photronics Named One Of Connecticut's Fastest Growing Technology Companies
  Photronics, Inc., a supplier of sub-wavelength reticle solution technology to the semiconductor industry, has been named to the Deloitte & Touche and Connecticut Technology Council Fast 50 Program for Connecticut. Rankings for the 50 fastest growing technology companies are based on five-year percentage revenue growth (1996-2000)
• NEMI to Kick Off 2002 Roadmap March 20-22 in Silicon Valley
  The National Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (NEMI) has scheduled the kick-off meeting for its 2002 roadmap for March 20-22 in the San Jose area.   Bookham Technology plc has entered into an agreement to acquire the business of Marconi Optical Components Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Marconi plc, in exchange for 12,891,000 ordinary shares in Bookham, equivalent to approximately 9.999 percent of the current issued share capital of Bookham
• ATS and EXFO Establish Strategic Alliance
  ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc. and EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. have signed a strategic alliance agreement. The agreement facilitates integration of EXFO's automated manufacturing subsystems and test systems into ATS' turnkey custom and standard automation solutions to better meet the specific needs of optical component and systems manufacturers
• PowerLight Begins Around-the-Clock Manufacturing of Solar Panels

  Philips Analytical has opened its newest facility - in Waterloo, Canada. The office, production and demo facility measures close to 2300 sq.m, and is dedicated to compound semiconductors. It reflects the company's growing success in the compound/SiGe semiconductor market.
• Spectra-Physics Announces Impairment of Telecom Assets
  Spectra-Physics, Inc. expects to record a pre-tax charge of between $28 million and $33 million during the fourth quarter of 2001, as a result of the impairment of certain assets relating to its passive component telecommunications operations. The impaired assets principally relate to the company's narrowband filter products and include fixed assets, operating leases and inventory.
