Coherent signs licensing agreement with OSRAM
December 28, 2006, Santa Clara, CA--Coherent has signed a licensing agreement with OSRAM (Munich, Germany) for the use of Coherent's Optically Pumped Semiconductor (OPS) Lasers for consumer laser based projection displays.

Cymer and Nikon celebrate shipment of 1000th laser light source
December 20, 2006, San Diego, CA--Cymer and Nikon (Tokyo, Japan) celebrated today the 1,000th laser light source shipment and the companies' 20-year partnership. The milestone shipment--an XLA 300 laser light source--will be integrated on a S610C lithography scanner, which will be used, by Nikon, in immersion lithography production to image next-generation integrated circuits.

Luna Innovations acquires rights to Iolon laser from Coherent
December 19, 2006, Roanoke, VA--Luna Innovations Incorporated has entered into a technology transfer and licensing agreement with Coherent (Santa Clara, CA) giving Luna the right to manufacture and sell the former Iolon "Apollo" line of swept tunable lasers. The Iolon laser is a miniaturized, external-cavity laser offering high performance in a compact footprint.

New detector company to launch products at Photonics West
December 15, 2006, Lake Oswego, OR--Don Dooley, former founder of Scientific Spectrum and Molectron Detector, has started a new detector company called Spectrum Detector Inc. The company will design and manufacture both standard and custom radiometric detectors, electronics, and instruments based on both thermal and photon detector technology for applications in research, medicine, process control, and optical radiometry.

IPG share price soars after IPO debut
December 14, 2006, Oxford, MA--After IPG Photonics announced the pricing of its initial public offering of 9 million shares of common stock at $16.50 per share (see www.laserfocusworld.com/articles/279683), Reuters reported later in the day that IPG rose as much as 56 percent to $25.70 as investors were attracted by its revenue growth and increased applications for its products.

OSRAM LEDs provide daytime running lights for luxury sports car
December 7, 2006, Regensburg, Germany--For the third time, light-emitting diode (LED) light sources from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors have been chosen by premier design company Pininfarina (Cambiano, Italy) to illuminate their bold headlight designs. Following the Pininfarina Enjoy show car and the Maserati Birdcage 75th, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors LEDs have now been added to a legendary Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina.
