Kollsman wins $26.5 million contract for laser spot imagers
December 31, 2007, Merrimack, NH--Kollsman has been awarded a $26.5 million contract by the U.S. Marine Corps to provide 503 Laser Spot Imagers with Protective Optic Covers, plus appropriate cables, batteries, cases, manuals, and training materials.

Source Photonics (formerly Luminent) files registration statement for IPO
December 28, 2007, Chatsworth, CA--MRV Communications and Source Photonics (a wholly owned subsidiary of MRV, formerly Luminent) announced that a registration statement has been filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for the proposed underwritten initial public offering of the Class A common stock of Source Photonics. The number of shares to be offered and the price range of the proposed offering have not yet been determined.

Palomar, Gillette delay launch of in-home laser hair-removal device
December 26, 2007, Burlington, MA--Palomar Medical Technologies and The Gillette Company (a wholly owned subsidiary of The Procter and Gamble Company) have agreed to extend the launch of a home-use, light-based hair removal device for women until no later than February 29, 2008.

December 20, 2007, Plymouth, MI and Hamburg, Germany--ROFIN-SINAR Technologies (RSTI), a developer and manufacturer of lasers and laser-based solutions, signed a definitive agreement for the acquisition of Nufern (East Granby, CT) as a wholly-owned subsidiary of RSTI, in a cash transaction, expected to be closed in the first quarter of 2008.

Rudolph to grow semiconductor inspection product line with acquisition of Applied Precision
December 20, 2007, Flanders, NJ--Rudolph Technologies, a provider of process characterization equipment and software for thin-film measurement and macro defect inspection, signed an agreement to acquire the net assets of the semiconductor business of Applied Precision (Issaquah, Washington). Applied Precision is a provider of wafer probe card metrology systems and process management systems to semiconductor final manufacturing facilities.

EMCORE to acquire telecom assets of Intel's Optical Platform Division
December 18, 2007, Albuquerque, NM and Santa Clara, CA--EMCORE Corporation and Intel Corporation announced a definitive agreement for EMCORE to acquire the telecom-related portion of Intel's Optical Platform Division for $85 million. The telecom assets to be acquired include intellectual property, assets and technology relating to tunable lasers, tunable transponders, 300-pin transponders, and integrable tunable laser assemblies.
