• Aegis Lightwave acquires CardinalPoint Optics
  April 25, 2008, Woburn, MA and Clinton, NJ--Aegis Lightwave, a company focused exclusively on providing a wide range of optical monitoring solutions to the fiber-optic communications industry, announced the acquisition of CardinalPoint Optics, a manufacturer of next-generation optical channel monitors.
• U.S. science and math weakness threatens nation's leadership role

• World's largest laser system comes to CLEO
  April 24, 2008, San Jose, CA--Nearly 6,000 papers in electro-optics, lasers, and the application of light waves will be presented at the 2008 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics/Quantum Electronics and Laser Science Conference (CLEO/QELS) May 4-9 at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, CA.
• The Netherlands awards Raytheon competitively bid laser-guided missile contract
  April 22, 2008, Tucson, AZ--The Netherlands awarded Raytheon Company a competitively bid contract for the combat-proven Enhanced Paveway II laser-guided munition (PGM). The contract, which is a direct commercial sale for an undisclosed sum, will provide the Netherlands with 200 kits to convert 500-pound "dumb" bombs into the GBU-49, a precision weapon that has been used extensively in Iraq.
• Cymer installs 90-W XLR light source at Nikon in Japan
  April 21, 2008, San Diego, CA--Cymer has upgraded its excimer-laser XLR platform, marking the first demonstration of a 90-W system at a leading lithography tool supplier.
• OSRAM Opto Semiconductors opens Hong Kong headquarters
  April 21, 2008, Santa Clara, CA--OSRAM, a wholly owned subsidiary of Siemens, has opened its new Asia regional headquarters of its subsidiary, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, a specialist in semiconductor technology for lighting, sensor, and visualization applications.
• Coherent to outsource Auburn optics manufacturing operations
  April 18, 2008, Santa Clara, CA--Coherent entered into a definitive agreement to sell certain assets of Coherent's Auburn Optics manufacturing operation to Research Electro-Optics (Boulder, CO), a privately held optics manufacturing and technology company. Consistent with the asset transaction, Coherent and REO have entered into a strategic supply agreement whereby REO will provide optical manufacturing capabilities for Coherent, including fabrication and coating of optical components.
• Intellection and Bruker AXS sign strategic collaboration agreement
  April 17, 2008, Brisbane, Australia and Karlsruhe, Germany--X-ray equipment manufacturer Bruker AXS GmbH and mineral analysis company Intellection Pty Ltd have announced a new strategic alignment.
• Contract signed for ESA's Sentinel-3 Earth-observation satellite
  April 17, 2008, Paris--The European Space Agency and Thales Alenia Space today signed a contract to provide the first Sentinel-3 Earth observation satellite.
• Enablence Technologies to acquire Wave7 Optics for $10.5 million
  April 15, 2008, Ottawa, Ont., Canada--Enablence Technologies, a supplier of planar lightwave circuit (PLC) based components for the fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), metro, and long-haul telecom markets, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire all outstanding shares of Wave7 Optics (Alpharetta, GA).
