• Redfern Integrated Optics secures $7.5 million in additional funding
  April 15, 2008, Santa Clara, CA--Redfern Integrated Optics (RIO), developer and manufacturer of high-performance, low-cost transmitters for the fiber-optic sensing and communication markets, secured an additional $7.5 million in funding. Led by Southern Cross Venture Partners, the round also included Tallwood Venture Capital and Jolimont Capital as investors.
• Bell Labs optical networking pioneers nominated for 2008 Millennium Technology prize
  April 11, 2008, Paris--Alcaltel-Lulcent has announced that three Bell Labs scientists have been nominated for the world's largest award for technology innovation.
• MagiQ Technologies announces formation of new research lab business

• Fiber-to-the-home connections in North America jump to 3 million
  April 9, 2008, Washington, DC--North America continues its march toward a high-bandwidth future as fiber to the home connections posted another year of robust growth, reaching nearly 3 million households, according to a study released by the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Council.
• LED maker Bridgelux secures $40 million
  April 8, 2008, Sunnyvale, CA--Bridgelux, a supplier of energy-saving light-emitting diode (LED) technology for high-volume, solid-state lighting markets, completed its latest round of financing, totaling approximately $40 million ($30 million of private equity investment and approximately $10 million of bank lines of credit). The funding allows Bridgelux to pursue its strategy for product development and market expansion, while continuing to drive research and development activities.
• II-VI to sell eV Products division
  April 7, 2008, Pittsburgh, PA--Laser optics manufacturer II-VI Incorporated has retained Roth Capital Partners to sell its x-ray and gamma-ray radiation sensor division, eV PRODUCTS.
• Agilent broadens microscopy portfolio with acquisition of TILL Photonics
  April 4, 2008, Santa Clara, CA--Agilent Technologies announced it has completed the acquisition of TILL Photonics (Munich, Germany), a developer, manufacturer, and marketer of optical, fluorescence microscopy products for the life sciences.
• PICALO Summit to focus on China and globalization
  April 4, 2008, Orlando, FL--The Laser Institute of America (LIA), in cooperation with the Laser Processing Committee of China Optical Society and Tsinghua University (Beijing, People's Republic of China), will host its first International Enterprise Summit on April 17th during PICALO 2008: the 3rd Pacific International Conference on Applications of Lasers and Optics (PICALO; www.laserinstitute.org/conferences/picalo), running from April 16-18 in Beijing.
• Congressional Visits Day urges research investment
