  • Asteroid camera uses 1.4 gigapixel detector from MIT
November 18, 2008--Silicon chips developed at MIT Lincoln Laboratory (Cambridge, MA) are at the heart of a new survey telescope that will soon provide a more than fivefold improvement in scientists' ability to detect asteroids and comets that could someday pose a threat to the planet.
  • Attosecond laser pulses steer hydrogen molecules
November 17, 2008--Physicists at Kansas State use ultrafast lasers to control electrons in hydrogen molecules--and the results are surprising.
  • Northrop Grumman releases FIRESTRIKE solid-state laser weapon
November 13, 2008--The world's first weaponized solid-state laser for U.S. military services is ready for order from Northrop Grumman.

New Products

Megapixel camera series

Four new scout models, scA 1300-32, are based on Sony’s ICX-445 CCD sensor. The cameras feature 32 frames per second image capture rate, resolution of 1280 × 960 pixels, and 1.2-megapixel resolution. Available in monochrome or color, they have either a GigE Vision-compliant Gigabit Ethernet interface or a FireWire-b interface.

Femtosecond source

The femtoTRAIN Imaging is an all-diode-pumped Ti:sapphire oscillator that produces light pulses with a duration of 100 fs at an average power of 200 mW. The pulse width is optimized for minimal broadening in multiphoton microscope systems. It is available with fixed center wavelengths of 790, 810, 850, or 870 nm.
