Solar simulator manufacturer TS-Space Systems (Marlow, England) has just launched an educational resource at http://www.solar-simulator.info for those new to solar simulators and to assist their customers when selecting a simulator. The goal of the guide is to bring awareness to the difference between modern, advanced solar simulators and those that simply meet the basic ASTM and IEC international standards.

As the resource describes, there are a huge number of manufacturers and models of solar simulators available, and choosing one can be an overwhelming decision. And while there are standards in place that require simulators to be classified according to their performance, the resource explains how these standards have not kept pace with the advances of solar simulator technology or the photovoltaic or solar energy devices they are used to test.

The solar simulator educational resource attempts to list the basic terminology and elements of solar simulators, how they are classified by the existing standards and, finally, how advanced solar simulators differ and the advantages they provide. The company says it is in no way a complete work, but is intended to help those who are new to the field by giving them a good entry-level knowledge of the subject.
