Today begins what is probably the most stimulating week of the year for those involved in biophotonics: The 2014 SPIE Biomedical Optics Symposium (SPIE BiOS) at SPIE Photonics West 2014 (February 1–7, San Francisco, CA). Besides approximately 2000 paper presentations exploring so many facets of biophotonics, there will be loads of new product announcements among the SPIE BiOS exhibits, and also:

  • A new conference on optical elastography and tissue biomechanics.
  • A “virtual symposium” on translational research—a Sunday lunchtime event featuring 200 papers on technologies and tools with high potential for clinical use.
  • New panels covering healthcare ventures investment and startup financing.
  • A new tech-transfer showcase that aims to connect academic and lab leaders seeking commercialization partners with business builders looking for new opportunities.
  • The Nano/Biophotonics track will feature its own plenary, given by Min Gu of Swinburne University (Australia).

Stay tuned for BioOptics World's view of the event as the week goes on!
