OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY/LASER SOURCES: Funding to boost development of fast tunable light sources for OCT

May 1, 2011
Fast tunable laser sources for optical coherence tomography (OCT) in life science applications is one of four application areas to receive a total EUR 500,000 of EU funding under a new project that aims to develop photonics research.

Fast tunable laser sources for optical coherence tomography (OCT) in life science applications is one of four application areas to receive a total EUR 500,000 of EU funding under a new project that aims to develop photonics research. Researchers at Lancaster University in the United Kingdom will receive the support from the Marie Curie research grant mechanism as part of a pan-European project named Postgraduate Research on Photonics as an Enabling Technology (PROPHET). The PROPHET consortium, which is supported by EUR 4.8 million of EU funding in total, is made up of nine academic partners, four industry partners and two associated partners from France, Germany, Ireland, Italy and Poland.

The EU Marie Curie funding mechanism is a highly competitive grant; in 2010, only 7% of applications from across the EU were successful.
