Bioptigen intros first 1 µm OCT system for ophthalmic research

May 28, 2013
Bioptigen, working with NKT Photonics, has introduced 1 µm axial resolution imaging to its line of Envisu spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) systems.

Bioptigen (Research Triangle Park, NC), working with NKT Photonics (Birkenrød, Denmark), has introduced 1 µm axial resolution imaging to its line of Envisu spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) systems. Now, NKT Photonics' SuperK supercontinuum laser integrates with Bioptigen's 300 nm spectrometer to achieve cellular-level in vivo ophthalmic imaging for preclinical research.

Dr. Eric Buckland, Bioptigen's CEO, notes that the new solution offers researchers true cellular-level in vivo optical histology. "This Extreme High Resolution (XHR) capability is unlocked only by the combination of Bioptigen’s patented spectrometer and signal processing technologies with the NKT Photonics SuperK supercontinuum source," he says.

Bioptigen exhibited the integrated XHR source in an OCT system at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) conference in Seattle, WA, on May 5-9, 2013.
