NinePoint Medical completes $34M Series B financing round

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging systems developer and maker NinePoint Medical has completed a $34 million Series B financing round to support the ongoing commercial launch of its NvisionVLE imaging system in the U.S., as well as development of its expanded product offering.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging systems developer and maker NinePoint Medical (Cambridge, MA) has completed a $34 million Series B financing round to support the ongoing commercial launch of its NvisionVLE imaging system in the U.S., as well as development of its expanded product offering. Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW), along with founding investors Third Rock Ventures and Prospect Venture Partners, led the financing.

Originally developed at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH; Boston, MA), the company licensed the imaging technology for NvisionVLE from MGH in 2010 as part of the largest intellectual property agreement for medical device technology in the hospital’s history. The system enables physicians and pathologists to endoscopically view real-time, high-resolution, cross-sectional images of organs and tissues up to 3 mm deep at better than 10 µm resolution.
