Smart Vision Labs has closed a $6.1M financing round for its SVOne smartphone-based ophthalmic device.

Smart Vision Labs (New York, NY) has closed a $6.1M Series A round to help commercialize its SVOne smartphone-based ophthalmic device that performs accurate, fast mobile vision exams wherever needed.

The SVOne autorefractor device uses wavefront aberrometry (an advanced technology used to characterize vision imperfection before performing corrective vision surgery) to measure a patient's refractive errors. The company is working with healthcare professionals to enable affordable, convenient, and high-quality access to vision care both domestically and abroad. To date, the device has been used to provide vision exams in clinics and mobile screenings in 21 different countries.

The company will use the Series A funding—which was led by Techstars Ventures and includes investments from Heritage Group, Connectivity Capital, and Red Sea Ventures—to further scale production of the device, develop additional products and services, and expand the team.
