Medical laser maker Lumenis is launching its ResurFX fractional non-ablative laser module at the 71st Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) meeting, currently being held through March 5, 2013.

Medical laser maker Lumenis (Yokneam, Israel) is launching its ResurFX fractional non-ablative laser module at the 71st Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD; Miami Beach, FL) meeting, currently being held through March 5, 2013.

The ResurFX module works with the company's M22 multi-application, multi-technology platform, extending its utility to enable non-ablative skin resurfacing and treatment of acne and surgical scars, skin discoloration, periorbital wrinkles, and stretch marks. With ResurfX, the 1565 nm fiber laser energy is delivered by the company's patent-pending CoolScan scanner to perform non-sequential scanning to maximize efficacy and reproducible results.

The module uses an algorithm with over 600 parameter combinations to apply micro-beams of 1565 nm laser energy in a non-sequential pattern to increase patient comfort and minimize non-specific thermal damage using the CoolScan scanning technology, explains Dr. Mitchel P. Goldman, M.D., principal investigator for ResurFX, Volunteer Clinical Professor of Dermatology, University of California, San Diego, and Medical Director, Dermatology/Cosmetic Laser Associates of La Jolla, Inc.

The module is awaiting FDA approval, but it is on display at the company's booth (#2035) at the AAD meeting through March 5th.
