Medical device developer Theradome's LH80 laser helmet to treat hair loss has received FDA clearance.

Medical device developer Theradome (Pleasanton, CA)'s LH80 laser helmet to treat hair loss has received FDA clearance. The low-cost, at-home-use system offers clinical-strength hair growth therapy previously found only in hair restoration clinics.

Therapies for meaningful female hair growth have only been available in clinical settings and typically cost thousands of dollars. Less expensive, non-clinical options deliver much less therapeutic light (typically under 5 percent of a clinical option) than clinical devices and in most cases have not been FDA-cleared.

The LH80 laser helmet is said to produce results with just two 20-minute treatments each week, and grows hair in 98 percent of users. It features 80 proprietary lasers that deliver 678 nm of light (the optimum wavelength for hair growth) to generate over 440 J and treat the full scalp area. Hands-free operation allows the user to carry out other tasks during therapy.
