Leica Biosystems set to acquire Aperio

Leica Biosystems (Nussloch, Germany) has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Aperio (Vista, CA), a digital pathology solutions company.

The two businesses will work together to grow and expand digital pathology into the global life science and healthcare markets, providing sample preparation and staining to imaging and reporting digital pathology solutions. Also, the company will continue to offer both companies' digital pathology portfolios.

The acquisition addresses the growing demand for personalized medicine and the increasing challenge of staff shortage in the global pathology market, explains Arnd Kaldowski, president of Leica Biosystems.
