König wins Leibinger second prize for clinical multiphotonic tomography on skin

Bellingham, WA-- Karsten König of JenLab (Jena, Germany) will be honored among other winners of the 2010 Berthold Leibinger awards at a ceremony to be held July 9 in Ditzingen, Germany, for his innovative work and research in laser technologies—specifically clinical multiphotonic tomography.

Bellingham, WA-- Karsten König of JenLab (Jena, Germany) will be honored among other winners of the 2010 Berthold Leibinger awards at a ceremony to be held July 9 in Ditzingen, Germany, for his innovative work and research in laser technologies—specifically clinical multiphotonic tomography. The Berthold Leibinger Stiftung awards prizes every two years to honor excellence in R&D work and outstanding research on the application or generation of laser light.

König will receive an Innovationspreis second prize, which is given by Trumpf International, for which Berthold Leibinger serves as Associate and Chairman of the company's Supervisory Board. König will receive the prize for his work in clinical multiphotonic tomography, with applications such as early diagnosis of cancer and detection of chemotherapeutical agents in the skin. Said to be one of the highest remunerated international innovation prizes for laser technology, the Berthold Leibinger Innovationspreis has honored scientists and developers who make advancements in the field since 2000. Three prizes are handed out with a total of € 60,000, none of it earmarked for a specific purpose.

Among all applications and recommendations, the jury nominates the best and most deserving work in the field. The jury is made up of respected experts from science and industry. The nominees are invited by the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung to a jury meeting to present their work in person.
