Handheld UV lamps for low-cost gradient sampling by Spectroline

May 6, 2009
Portable E-Series UV lamps by Spectroline (Westbury, NY) were designed to enable inexpensive gradient sampling. They make the faint DNA bands much more visible, for example when isolating the DNA bands on a CsCl solution. When using ethidium bromide staining to monitor the progress of gradient separation of DNA bands from agarose gel slices, the lamps ensure a higher sensitivity of detection without damaging stained DNA.
