Paul Andrews, Endeavor Business Media vice president and group publisher, today announced that Peter Fretty has been hired as the new editor in chief of Laser Focus World. Since 1965, Laser Focus World has steadily become the leader in providing engineers, researchers and business leaders with comprehensive coverage of photonics technologies, applications and markets trends.

“We have a highly skilled, technical audience with high expectations. I look forward to working with my team to exceed their expectations by consistently providing useful and engaging content and solutions,” Fretty says. “This is an amazing opportunity to lead such a storied brand into its next phase as a true powerhouse.”

A seasoned journalist with 25 years of editorial experience covering technology and business leadership, Fretty most recently served as technology editor for IndustryWeek. He established a strong voice and provided the publication’s engaged manufacturing audience with meaningful insights at a time when digital transformation took center stage.

“Peter brings an extraordinary amount of experience to both Laser Focus World and the Laser and Photonics Marketplace Seminar,” says Andrews. “Content is the energy source for our readership, and we are fortunate to have someone of Peter’s caliber leading this critical role.”

In addition to his career in journalism, Fretty spent over a decade in manufacturing operations and leadership roles including successfully launching new products and meeting the ever-evolving demands common in the aerospace and automotive industries.
