Large-area avalanche photodiodes have use in scintillation

April 4, 2021
Large-area avalanche photodiodes (LAAPDs) have up to a 16 mm active area diameter and operate at up to 2000 V with gains of up to 300.

Large-area avalanche photodiodes (LAAPDs) have up to a 16 mm active area diameter and operate at up to 2000 V with gains of up to 300. Available cooled or uncooled, they cover the blue, red, or deep-UV spectral regions to 150 nm with 120% quantum efficiency. Applications include scintillation or direct x-ray detection.
