The MegaPlus model 1.6i camera uses a 10-bit CCD to provide 1024 levels of gray. In comparison, 8-bit sensors provide 256 levels of gray, providing less range. The cameras sensor is 1534 × 1024 pixels, with a 100% fill factor between the 9-µm-square pixels. Applications that need the increased dynamic range include retinal imaging as well as some machine-vision, metrology, and microscopy applications.
