Belfast, Northern Ireland, August 18, 2003. The first-ever gathering to focus on the application and development of Electron Multiplying CCD (EMCCD) technology is to be held in Ireland from 5-7 September 2003. Hosted by Queen's University, Belfast, the event will look at who is using the technology, which applications it suits, what its limitations are, what its future holds and what plans there are for cameras using EMCCD technology.
The event will feature presentations from international experts on specific applications of EMCCD technology. Topics will include advances in EMCCD chip technology, EMCCD camera developments, confocal live cell microscopy, calcium flux microscopy, single molecule detection, neuroscience, astronomy / adaptive optics, Bose Einstein Condensation and multi-dimensional microscopy.
The inaugural symposium is being held at Radisson Roe Park, Limavady, Northern Ireland and is being sponsored by Andor Technology, which recently launched the world's first commercially available EMCCD camera.
Andor's Managing Director Hugh Cormican says, "Andor Technology launched the iXon camera range using Electron Multiplying Technology just under two years ago. This technology has moved rapidly in that time and is now in routine use in a wide range of applications including DNA labelling, drug discovery, single molecule detection, fluorescence studies and low light microscopy.
"We felt that this symposium will put like minded people together, both suppliers and customers and answer some of the questions about this technology and where it is going" he adds.
