Ultrafast InGaAs photodetector has high gain, low noise factor

Amplification Technologies has begun shipment of its TEC-cooled InGaAs solid-state photomultipliers. These detectors feature gain better than 100,000, noise factor less than 1.1, response time better than 500 ps, with photon counting capability at room temperature.

Amplification Technologies has begun shipment of its TEC-cooled InGaAs solid-state photomultipliers. These detectors feature gain better than 100,000, noise factor less than 1.1, response time better than 500 ps, with photon counting capability at room temperature. Unlike conventional GM-APDs, these detectors do not need an external quenching circuit and operate in a nongated continuous mode. The technology realizes the future creation of linear and 2-D arrays that combine: *high gain, *low-noise factor and *high-speed operation using conventional semiconductor fabrication techniques. Single-channel devices (200 µm, 7 µm active area) in TO5 or TE-cooled TO8 packages and modules, are available.
