San Jose, CA--Cypress Semiconductor has introduced a high precision and high performance laser navigation sensor as part of its OvationON laser navigation sensor family. The CYONS1001G delivers unmatched speed and accuracy with low power consumption, using Cypress's patent-pending OptiCheck technology. It targets applications including high-performance gaming, precision graphic design, and high accuracy position detection.

The OvationONS sensor integrates the detector and laser in a compact 8 mm x 8 mm Quad Flat No-Lead (QFN) package with a simple snap-on lens design. The simple two-piece device has built-in laser eye safety management, eliminating the need for laser power calibration during mouse assembly to reduce manufacturing cost.

The technology's signal-processing load is independent of mouse speed; OvationONS sensors can simultaneously support full speed (50 inches per second) and full resolution (2800 counts-per-inch), maximizing the counts-per-second recorded by the mouse and avoiding the "deceleration" effect that hampers many sensors on the market today. In addition, OptiCheck uses a position-sampling rate as high as 40 kHz, allowing the OvationONS sensor to have instant response to changes in tracking direction or speed with significantly reduced latency.

"Our unique OptiCheck technology provides OvationONS laser navigation sensors with superior speed and resolution," said Shuo Zhang, vice president of Sales and Marketing for Cypress's Optical Navigation Operation. "The new CYONS1001G enables a user experience that is noticeably enhanced compared to mice made with other sensors."
