Bedford, MA--EM4, which offers contract optoelectronic component and submicron assembly design and manufacturing services, has purchased the intellectual property (IP) and assets of PowerNetix Inc. (San Jose, CA). The purchase includes PowerNetix Uniline packaging technology, optical manufacturing fixtures, and all PowerNetix's pending and existing patents.

PowerNetix is best known for producing pump lasers. Their 980-nm 9000 Series laser modules are qualified according to the Telcordia GR-486-CORE standard, the industry's most stringent reliability test. PowerNetix's existing customer base of companies in the telecom, cable television, and industrial sectors span geographies including North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

"Acquiring PowerNetix helps EM4 further build our company and our brand," said Basil Garabet, CEO of EM4. "The assets and IP from PowerNetix will help us to expand our product line and our customer base. This is an important step in the growth of EM4."

According to Garabet, EM4 helps its customers drive down costs, reduce risk, and compete more effectively by outsourcing the design and manufacture of optoelectronic and photonic components. EM4 has developed proprietary tools that provide faster and more accurate fiber alignment and assembly that greatly speeds the manufacturing process.

EM4's core capabilities include the design, development, production, and reliability testing of integrated active devices, including directly modulated lasers, photodiode receivers, transceivers, pump lasers, and amplifiers.
