New Two-Axis Mirror Tilting Platforms offer a Wide Tilt Range - up to 44 mrad

Jena, Germany / Hudson, MA, USA – December 12, 2024 – piezosystem jena, a leading manufacturer of piezo-based nanopositioning components, proudly unveils the new PSH 20/2 and PSH 35/2 tip-tilt stages. Engineered to meet the evolving demands of high-resolution mirror steering applications, such as laser beam stabilization in advanced optical communication systems, both the PSH 20/2 and PSH 35/2 offer industry-leading precision, wide tilting ranges, and high resonant frequencies.

Key Benefits:
• Extended Tilting Range: Up to 36 mrad closed-loop tilting range, and 44 mrad in open-loop.
• High Dynamics: The stages are preloaded, and offer high resonant frequencies – up to 2 kHz.
• Larger Mirrors: Designed for mirrors up to 32 mm in diameter.
• Closed-Loop Control: Both models offer optional strain gauge feedback systems.
• Innovative Software: PiSoWorks control software with Iterative Learning Control (ILC) guarantees closed-loop precision at open-loop speeds.

Of these two new PSH stages, the PSH 20/2 is optimized for rapid tilt applications with lower capacitance and reduced energy consumption. The PSH 35/2 offers a longer stroke of motion and operation within a broader temperature range, making it ideal for achieving high precision in challenging environments.

Both stages provide tilt to the top plate of the platform on two perpendicular axes. The design construction is temperature-compensated so that changes in ambient temperature do not affect tilting precision. The resolution of these stages is 0.5 µrad in open-loop and 1.0 µrad in closed-loop.

The recommended controller for the PSH 20/2 and PSH 35/2 is the NV 200/D NET, which includes PiSoWorks control software. The controller delivers powerful high-resolution signals up to 400 mA peak current. It has 16-bit resolution and a noise level of 0.3 mV. Control options include Ethernet, USB-C, SPI, and analog. The NV 200/D NET includes Iterative Learning Control (ILC) that learns and compensates for unwanted motion, delivering open-loop speeds with closed-loop precision.
