Enabling laser stabilization through Optical Reference Cavities with an unprecedented form factor

Feb. 25, 2025

Menlo Systems announces the release of the ORC-Micro: the optical reference cavity with the most compact form factor, perfect for all applications that require short-term (10 ms) laser stabilization and sub-kHz stability performance.

With a free spectral range (FSR) of 4 GHz and a finesse of >50k, the newly developed cavity provides price-sensitive single-color (1542/1550 nm) optical reference options, both in free-space and fiber-coupled configurations. It has been designed to provide a cost-effective yet stable reference for applications such as laser cooling and thermal beam experiments.

In the standard free-space solution, an external laser can be coupled to the ORC-Micro through a viewport, while monitoring the transmission output signal. Temperature tuning and stabilization is provided via a Peltier element. The power to customize is in the hands of the user via various options, including fiber coupling and Pound-Drever-Hall (PDH) locking electronics. With the fiber in- and out-coupling setup the user has a plug-and-play solution for telecom laser-stabilization applications.
Finally, the considerably reduced form factor of the ORC-Micro perfectly enables seamless OEM integration, in synergy with other Menlo Systems products. Don’t hesitate to contact us with your requirements.
