PG&O® Announces 40th Anniversary in Precision Optics Industry
Santa Ana, CA – February 18, 2024 – Precision Glass & Optics (PG&O – www.pgo.com), a global leader in high-quality, high-precision optical components and thin-film coatings, is pleased to announce its 40th anniversary, marking four decades of innovation, craftsmanship, unmatched optical quality, and dedicated partnerships with customers in a wide range of industries.
Founded in 1985, Precision Glass & Optics has supported mission-critical operations in defense and aerospace with high-performing optical components for imaging, targeting, and guidance systems. In medical and life sciences, the company provides precision optics for use in diagnostic equipment and medical imaging. For industrial and commercial applications, PG&O supplies complete optical solutions for complex laser systems, robotics, machine vision, and more.
According to PG&O’s president, Dan Bukaty, Jr., “We are delighted to celebrate this major 40-year milestone while looking toward the future as we continue to expand our capabilities and invest in advanced technologies to serve emerging markets. With a long-term commitment to innovation, we recently announced the installation of a PR Hoffman 5400 Double-Sided Polishing (DSP) machine plus a state-of-the-art diamond wire saw at our facility. We are excited to build on our legacy and continue delivering innovative optical solutions for decades to come.”
The company has refined its manufacturing process while meeting the highest quality standards and significantly improving delivery times, from small custom orders to high-volume production runs up to 100,000 parts per month. The newly installed PR Hoffman polisher ensures the production of high-volume components with tighter tolerances and superior surface quality on substrates such as Fused Silica, BK-7, and other materials.
The new diamond wire saw improves material preparation while reducing lead times and increasing the company’s production capacity. These recent equipment acquisitions enhance efficiency and ensure the highest level of precision in optical component manufacturing. PG&O is perfectly positioned to meet the ever-evolving, rapidly advancing technologies of the optics industry.

Precision Glass & Optics (PG&O®) – www.pgo.com - Founded in 1985, PG&O provides reliable and cost-effective, high-precision polished optics and prisms from 0.040 inches up to 30 inches diameter, precision thin-film coatings, custom and standard components, and turnkey optical solutions for operation in the 0.2 µm to 15 µm wavelength range. The company also offers highly durable sapphire optics for broad-spectrum applications and finished infrared (IR) optics fabrication services for mission-critical tasks.
The company’s recently acquired PR Hoffman 5400 double-sided polishing (DSP) machine permits us to deliver parts with remarkable dimensional accuracy and superior surface integrity. Whether you require high-precision optical components, semiconductor wafers, aerospace parts, or medical devices, our new DSP capability ensures unrivaled surface quality and consistency in every batch.
Our extensive glass substrate inventory combines with our expanded polishing services, and other fabrication capabilities such as CNC machining, slicing, sawing, scribing, edging, and assembly, to deliver finished optics and precision thin-film coatings. Ask about our unique re-polishing services that can salvage fabricated thin-film optics. This can save an optics manufacturer time and money by replacing a dielectric coating that has been damaged or does not meet the specifications.
We have two large coating chambers and an expert, in-house engineering staff to assure continuity and supply optical solutions to meet the vital demands of military, aerospace, biomedical, imaging, laser, avionics, digital cinema, life sciences, solar, display, homeland security, automotive, and emerging markets. From simple optics and plano optical components to complex shapes, precision and multilayer thin films, intricate assemblies, and custom optical design solutions, PG&O is your key supplier.
