Photonchina succeeds in mass production of the thinnest true zero order waveplate

June 2, 2021

Thickness of true zero order waveplate T=0.027mm, single plate, without glass holder, is the latest accuracy level reached by Phtonchina Co.,Ltd, thanks to its special production technique and skilled technicians.

For a diameter 25.4mm true zero order waveplate, production has previously reached the thickness of 0.04mm. Now Photonchina has made a big progress in the fabrication of waveplate products by pushing forward a higher level of stringent requirement on the thickness while maintaining the excellent surface quality, parallelism performance.

In general, Photonchina’s waveplates fabrication starts from quartz materials cutting with their axes oriented within a few arcminutes before being polished to a laser-quality finish, arcsecond parallelism, and <λ/10 wavefront. Their thickness tolerance is a only small fraction of a micron. To verify retardation tolerances, specially-trained optical technicians use purpose-built test gear. From optical polish to anti-reflective coating, every step requires skilled technician and specifically designed optical tools.

For the past two decades, people in Photonchina have accumulated valuable experience in production for a complete range of quartz waveplate products, which earned the precious trust of our customers worldwide.
