Low Sparkle Non-Glare Glass for Uniform Diffuse Reflection Providing Low Haze & True Color Rendering
Santa Paula, CA – Abrisa Technologies, a member of HEF Photonics, provides “Low Sparkle” non-glare soda lime glass in formats to 63” x 40” and in thicknesses of 1.1 – 6mm. All standard gloss levels of 40, 60, 90, and 120 have our special highly controlled and uniform micro etched non-glare surfaces for consistent “low sparkle” performance in display applications.
“Sparkle” occurs when the non-glare glass used with a display has a surface where the etch patterns size and roughness has variation resulting in inconsistent, insufficient, or unpredictable light diffusion effects in select areas of the glass. An observer sees this variation projected through the glass as artifacts of distorted pixel color, shape, pinpoint light leaks, or points of reflection that are not sufficiently or correctly diffused which were not present when viewing the display itself. These artifacts are referred to as “Sparkle” and affect perceived display resolution and image quality.
According to Susan Hirst, General Manager of Abrisa Technologies’ Industrial Glass Group, “Our Low Sparkle Glass provides sharp rendering of images with increased clarity for easily readable devices in direct sunlight due to the reduced glare afforded by the diffusion of reflected light, making it ideal for interactive flat panel and touch displays, tablets, e-readers, and digital signage. It is key to understand that even with similar gloss levels, not all non-glare glass performs the same. Our non-glare glass, produced using a high tech etch process, has fine, well controlled, and consistent micro etch roughness which when applied to our colorless low iron soda lime float glass, results in a glass that delivers consistent “Low Sparkle” non-glare performance with low haze, optimal contrast, paper-like tactile feel and true color rendering.”
Susan further adds, “Abrisa Technologies offers a full suite of glass fabrication and value-added capabilities for “Low Sparkle” and other glass of its supply including machining, cutting, drilling, screen printing, strengthening (both heat and HIE™ chemical), safety options (heat tempering, safety film), laser etching and unique identifier marking. Additionally, we offer anti-reflective (AR) and oleophobic coatings for even more robust image clarity and cleanable Total Solutions.”
