Diffusion Bonding Laser Crystals
Diffusion Bonding Crystals are crystals consisting of two, three or more parts of different materials, where the constituent parts are combined through a process called diffusion bonding, that is, sticking the interfaces(the interfaces must be extremely flat) of optical crystals tightly together, and after further processing, to permanently bond the crystals as a whole without adding any adhesive.
The Crystals being bonded could be a laser gain media crystal doped with laser-active ions, and its counterparts without dopants (e.g. YAG + Nd :YAG), by bonding undoped crystal to the ends of the laser gain crystal, one could substantially decrease the thermal lens effect, because the heat could exit from the two ends rather than just concentrate in laser gain media, thus preventing the potential of thermal fracture and improving the overall stability and beam quality of the laser systems. One may also bond crystals of different doping compositions(e.g. Nd :YAG + Cr4+:YAG, where Nd :YAG is the gain media and Cr4+:YAG acts as a saturable absorber for passive Q-switching).
Diffusion bonded crystals are also conducive to the integration of laser systems and access to large-size crystals. Hangzhou Shalom EO supplies the bonding crystals from various types of crystals: Nd:YAG, YAG, Cr:YAG, Nd:YVO4, YVO4, Er:Glass, Co:Spinel, etc.
