High Speed Electrically Operated Polarization Controller/Scrambler

Feb. 15, 2018

Ottawa, Canada – February 1, 2016 - OZ Optics Limited, a world leading supplier of fiber optic products for existing and next-generation optical networks, now offers a high speed electrically operated Polarization Controller (EPC) that provides continuous polarization control in a compact, easy to operate package.

The unit has four birefringence transducers, each controlled by an analog input signal, installed along a fiber to change the polarization in orthogonal directions. The response speed of each transducer surpasses 30kHz.  Insertion losses and return losses are near negligible, and the device can be operated from 1260nm to over 1650nm wavelengths. Custom versions for other wavelengths are offered.  Applications include polarization controllers for optical networks, Polarization Dependent Loss (PDL) control, Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) compensation modules, and polarization scramblers for polarization parameter characterization systems.  The redundant transducer design allows continuous control of polarization without having to “reset” the voltages.

High Speed Polarization Controllers are offered as base modules requiring external electrical signals to operate, OEM modules with driver electronics and control interface, or stand-alone benchtop test instruments.  For detailed specifications and additional information about these and other products, visit www.ozoptics.com.
