High-birefringence optical fiber has use in fiber-optic gyroscopes

March 29, 2021
A highly birefringent polarization fiber targets high-volume production of compact fiber-optic gyroscopes operating at 1550 nm.

A highly birefringent polarization fiber targets high-volume production of compact fiber-optic gyroscopes operating at 1550 nm. The IB PM fiber beat length is 0.9 mm at 633 nm to offer high polarization extinction ratio, even with radii below 30 mm. The external coating diameter is 128 µm for an 80 µm clad fiber.
