Lithium niobate modulator

Sept. 1, 1996
A 10-Gbit/s lithium niobate intensity module provides chirp-free modulation at 1550 nm. The modulator is designed to be used in externally modulated fiberoptic transmitters for supertrunking of digitized cable-TV signals as well as for long-haul transmission of OC-192 data. The velocity-matched modulator has a typical insertion loss of 4 dB, drive voltage of 5 V, and electrical return loss of 10 dB.
