Fiberoptic land gyro
The Autogyro Navigator is a compact fiberoptic gyroscope for land navigation systems. The gyro provides vehicle turning angle and interfaces with the vehicle odometer and backup light for dead-reckoning navigation. In conjunction with the Global Positioning System satellite receiver, the gyro allows determination of vehicle loca tion even when buildings, terrain, or trees block satellite signals. Applications include automatic vehicle-location systems for delivery- service or emergency-vehicle fleets.
