Variable wave plate

Dec. 1, 1995
A lithium-niobate integrated optical wave plate is available for use in fiber systems operating at either 1300 or 1550 nm. The differential voltage between the TE and TM modes is less than 10 V. The fiber-to-fiber insertion loss in the TE mode is less than 4 dB, while the differential insertion loss (TE vs. TM mode) is less than 1 dB. Input and output pigtails are typically polarization-maintaining fiber.
