Santa Clara, CA, September 25, 2002 -- Luxtron Corporation has tightened its focus on its fiber optic temperature business. To capitalize its growth in the field of in-situ Fiberoptic Temperature Measurement, Luxtron will concentrate its R&D, Applications Engineering, and Product Development resources on developing and integrating fiber optic temperature systems into OEM tools.

Luxtron's fiber optic thermometers are currently used by various OEMs in demanding applications in Semiconductor, Optoelectronics, Utility, and Medical markets.

"Luxtron pioneered the field of fiber optic thermometry 25 years ago. Today it has a dominant position in many of these market segments, based on its ability to solve tough problems in wafer temperature measurement, plasma and RTP chamber control, utility transformer, biomedical and other industrial R&D applications. We've also released several new products and have more in the pipeline. As a result, these businesses have held up surprisingly well during the current market downturn. By focusing our resources in this area, we see a unique opportunity to solidify our leading market position even further, and position the company for accelerated long term growth as the market recovers," explained Luxtron president, Ed Oh.

As a result of this decision Luxtron announced the discontinuance of its endpoint controller product line effective December 31st 2002. Equipment and spare parts will be for sale until that date at newly reduced end-of-life pricing.

Luxtron Corporation is a leading supplier of in-situ fiber optic thermometry and metrology solutions for the semiconductor, optoelectronics, and flat panel display industries. Its products give users the ability to monitor processes and measure temperature in harsh environments with extraordinary accuracy.

Luxtron provides yield-enhancing products for plasma processing (etch and deposition), MOCVD, MBE, epitaxy and rapid thermal processing (RTP) and diffusion processes.

Luxtron is a wholly owned subsidiary of Spectris plc. Headquarters, featuring ISO9001 certified manufacturing facilities, are located in Santa Clara, California.
