Focusing on oil and gas markets, Fibercore acquires Fibertronix

Fibercore has acquired Fibertronix, which makes specialty fiber and coatings for harsh environment applications within the oil & gas and medical industries.  

Fibercore (Southampton, England) has acquired Fibertronix (Hudiksvall, Sweden), which makes specialty fiber and coatings for harsh environment applications within the oil & gas and medical industries. Fibertronix's standard and custom fiber products are based on the research done at Acreo Swedish ICT (Kista, Sweden), and its portfolio includes special fibers such as polyimide as well as pure-core, high-NA, large-core, radiation-hardened, rare-earth doped, and micro-structured custom fibers and preforms.

Fibercore CEO Christopher Emslie noted, “This acquisition is a key part of Fibercore’s long-term strategy to support the oil & gas industry’s increasing demands for specialty optical fiber and harsh-environment cables. Combining Fibertronix’s cutting-edge technology in hermetic carbon and high-temperature polyimide coating with Fibercore’s experience in the high-volume manufacture of sensing fibers will generate the specialty fiber resource that the industry has been crying-out for."

In medical applications, Fibertronix’s fiber Bragg gratings and autoclavable coatings marrying well with Fibercore’s multicore, single mode, and polarization maintaining products. Emslie added that, as a part of the acquisition, Fibercore will also gain Saeed Rehman as SVP of Business Development, who will be joining with immediate effect.
