January 19, 2009--Koheras (Birkerod, Denmark), part of the NKT Photonics and manufacturer of SuperK white-light fiber lasers and systems, together with Arctic Photonics (Jorvas, Finland), a manufacturer of pulsed solid -state laser products, announced the signing of a strategic collaboration agreement in which Koheras will gain access to Arctic's ultracompact, short-pulse solid-state laser technology and its laser design competence.

"We see Arctic's products as a very strategic element for our SuperK range," said Koheras CEO Jakob Skov. "The combination of Arctic's lasers and SuperK technologies will not only enhance our current products but their ability to design high-performance, very compact pulsed lasers will lead to the creation of new products that will be immensely competitive in the markets of today and tomorrow."

Arctic Photonics will benefit from the extensive infrastructure available from the entire NKT Photonics Group. "We are seeing impressive growth in a variety of markets for our pulsed laser technology with Tier 1 customers," said Arctic CEO Scott Buchter. "Access to Koheras' impressive manufacturing and sales infrastructure together with support from the NKT Photonics Group will ensure that we provide the most commercially competitive products and best possible service not only for our rapidly expanding customer base, but also to Koheras's SuperK products as well."

In addition to the technological collaboration, Koheras also acquires a stake in Arctic Photonics as part of the agreement.

Preliminary products which combine technologies from Arctic Photonics and Koheras will be launched at BiOS (booth #8434) and Photonics West 2009 (booth #5132) exhibitions in California.
