Albuquerque, NM--Emcore Corporation (NASDAQ: EMKR), a provider of compound semiconductor-based components and subsystems for the fiber-optic and solar photovoltaics markets, announced that its Board of Directors appointed Mark Weinswig as chief financial officer (CFO), effective October 11, 2010, when he started with Emcore.
Reporting to the CEO, Weinswig will be responsible for the Company's finance and accounting functions. Prior to joining Emcore, Weinswig held various leadership positions as controller, executive VP of business development, and interim CFO with technology companies including Coherent and Avanex Corporation (now Oclaro). He previously was at Morgan Stanley's Institutional Equity Research Group, where he covered the telecommunications equipment industry, and at PriceWaterhouseCoopers as an auditor. Weinswig received an MBA from the University of Santa Clara and a BS in business administration from Indiana University. He has earned the CFA and CPA designations.

Emcore's fiber-optics segment offers optical components, subsystems and systems for high-speed data and telecommunications networks, cable television (CATV), and fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP). Emcore's photovoltaics segment provides products for both space and terrestrial applications. For space applications, Emcore provides gallium arsenide (GaAs) solar cells, covered interconnected cells (CICs), and panels. For terrestrial applications, Emcore is adapting its high-efficiency GaAs solar cells for use in solar-concentrator systems.
