PRESS RELEASE

M2 Optics Offers Real-Time Monitoring System for Optical Networks

May 26, 2010, Raleigh, NC - M2 Optics, a leading provider of innovative test solutions for fiber optics systems, is now offering the ability to monitor optical fibers in real-time, without interrupting network activity. With a growing focus on sending data via optical networks, the Fiber Monitor is able to instantly identify a wide variety of common issues including broken fibers, degraded connections, and data theft/tapping attempts. The Fiber Monitor uses patented C-OTDR (correlation optical time delay reflectometry) technology to offer greater sensitivity and precision than conventional OTDR systems.

"The Fiber Monitor helps network providers and data centers in the financial, military/government, healthcare, and public transit markets to ensure service availability at all times" said Kevin Miller, vice president of marketing at M2 Optics. "By providing real-time alerts and pinpointing issues to within a few meters along the entire fiber span, it can drastically reduce downtimes required for servicing." Miller added that the Fiber Monitor also adds an extra layer of security for transmissions of sensitive data. "The potential theft of information and increasing privacy compliance laws are ongoing issues that many companies and government agencies frequently deal with. The Fiber Monitor is sensitive enough to detect attempts to tap into the fiber and generate an alert, aiding companies in their efforts in maintaining security compliance. This can be especially useful in smaller enterprises as it provides a high level of data security even without costly encryption in place."

The Fiber Monitor is both affordable and easy to install and maintain, making it suitable for a wide variety of applications. Each chassis can monitor up to 16 active or dark fiber lines simultaneously, with maximum distances up to 60 miles long. The unit connects to installed optical networks without requiring any rerouting or additional cabling within the data center.

The unit's built-in web-based monitoring software is accessible from any location and provides straightforward analysis of network activity. This accessibility provides networking systems with an opportunity to automatically react to fault conditions as well as to respond to intrusion attempts by triggering alarms.

M2 Optics will provide the Fiber Monitor to the US market, and will serve as both the key distributor and support center for users.
