OEM optical switches capable of switching an optical path in <30 ns are based on an acousto-optic modulator with no mechanical moving parts. The optical switches have uses in telecommunications applications, including optical add/drop multiplexing and cross-connect deployments, as well as fiber-optic sensing applications. They offer low insertion losses and low-power consumption, and can handle optical power up to 1 W.
